Parts needed to configure a network
A typical Local Area Network (LAN) is composed of the following:
- 2 or more computers
- 1
Hub or
switch
- All computers need a Network Interface Card (NIC)
- 1
network cable per computer, connecting the NIC to the hub/switch
Notes:
- A network with just two computers can use a simple
Network Crossover Cable.
- Each computer you add to this setup will require 1 NIC and 1 network cable.
- The Hub/Switch you are using must also have enough ports available to support additional machines. If you want to network 10 computers then a 4 port Hub will not suffice for your needs.
