Battle.net Mail Features
If you register an e-mail address with your account, you can take advantage of friend mail and/or clan mail to stay in touch with other Battle.net users, even when they're offline. Please note that clan mail is only available for Warcraft III users.
To control who can send you e-mails there are two options that can be adjusted using the /options command while online. By default your account will not receive any e-mails (except from yourself).
To allow users on your friends list to send you e-mails use the command /options friendmail. If you change your mind you can disable friend mail using /options nofriendmail.
If you are a member of a Warcraft III clan you can allow fellow clan members to send you e-mails using the command /options clanmail. This can be disabled using /options noclanmail. By enabling clan mail you will also receive clan announcements issued by clan officials. This clan functionality only applies to Warcraft III Reign of Chaos and Frozen Throne clans.
To send a message to a user, use the command /mail [account] [message]. If the user has allowed you to send them e-mail, they will receive your message in the subject line. Your registered e-mail address will not be revealed to the recipient, only your account name and gateway. The recipient of the e-mail can respond using the first line of the reply which will be delivered to you on Battle.net.
If you have registered an e-mail address you can always send yourself an e-mail using /mail regardless of the friendmail and clanmail options.
Example
Joe is on Battle.net and wants to ask Fred if he's available for a game.
Fred has registered an e-mail address, added Joe to his friends list (using /f a Joe) and enabled friend mail (using /o fm).
Joe issues the command "/mail Fred hey, you up for a game?"
Fred will receive an e-mail with the subject "hey, you up for a game?" from Joe.
Fred replies to the e-mail using the first line of the reply, "be there in a sec".
Joe will then receive the message "be there in a sec" from Fred.
If Joe had logged off of Battle.net before Fred sent the reply, Battle.net will then attempt to deliver the message via e-mail to Joe. Joe will need to have registered an e-mail address, added Fred to his friends list and enabled friend mail to allow the message to be delivered.
Clan announcements
Clan officers can send announcements to all members using the command /clan mail [message]. This message will be delivered to all clan members who have registered an e-mail address and enabled clan mail (using /o cm). You cannot reply to a clan announcement.
