Are you receiving a message saying: (Any error that occurs when starting or joining a game with a single, open, or TCP/IP character)
We are unable to repair corrupted single player or Open Battle.net characters. If you have ever downloaded a 3rd-party program, such as a trainer, cheat, or hack, please be aware that these programs can cause character corruption. We highly suggest making a backup of your character files in case you should experience character corruption in the future.
Your character files are stored in the Diablo2\save folder on your hard drive. The character files have the same name as the character. If you want to backup the files or move the character to a different computer, save those files and then copy them into the new Diablo2\save folder. Right-click on the character files, select properties and make sure that the read-only checkbox is empty.
Keep in mind that once a character is used with the newest patch version of the game, it can not be used in earlier versions of the game. You can get the latest patch from
