Are you receiving a message saying: "The archive is corrupt" or "Unable to authenticate archive" when patching? (PC)
Step 1:
Alternative Patch Methods:
Please try downloading the patch from an alternate download site or different Battle.net realm. The one you have obtained may be corrupt.
You can download and run the stand-alone patch from our
Patch Page or automatically download it from a different realm by connecting to a realm that you normally do not play on.
Step 2:
Administrator Account for Windows XP/2000:
Verify you are using an Administrator Account when patching the game. To find out which user accounts are marked as Administrator accounts, please see the instructions below:
- Click Start > Control Panel and look for an icon called User Accounts.
- Double click this and it should bring up a list of users on your computer.
- Find the user account that matches your user name and have a look in the group column, it may say administrator, power user or user. This is what type of account you are logged on with. If it says administrator you should be ok.
Step 3:
Background Applications:
You may need to exit any programs you have running in the background that may be interfering with the patching process. For instructions on closing background applications, please visit our
Closing background applications page.
Step 4:
Boot up in Safe Mode:
Booting up in Safe Mode may also help. Please visit our
How to boot Windows in Safe Mode page for instructions on how to boot up in this mode.
Step 5:
NVIDIA Active Armor Firewall:
Some motherboards integrated network adapters include the NVIDIA Active Armor Firewall. If you have this software installed on your system, uninstalling the firewall software seems to resolve the issue. Please only do this if you have a back up copy available so you can reinstall it. Please contact your system or motherboard manufacturer for assistance with determining if your motherboard has included this software. A list of manufacturers with contact information can be found
here.
Once the software has been removed, you may need to redownload the patch and attempt the patch installation again.
Step 6:
Reinstall and Repatch:
If the problem persists, please try reinstalling the game and see if that helps. You may have an older version of the Blizzard Updater application installed and a reinstall should update this. If you need assistance with reinstalling your game, please visit our
Support Site Index, select the appropriate game on the left hand side that you are experiencing issues with and follow the steps under the Install/Uninstall Issues section.
