Are you getting "Corrupt Data File" errors during gameplay or installation? (PC)

Problems with bad or corrupted data files are typically addressed by the following steps:

Step 1
Reinstall the game:

First, try uninstalling and reinstalling the game to re-establish your game and data files.  You can find instructions for how to do this on our How to Uninstall and Reinstall page.

Step 2
Damaged Game Disks:

The next thing to check for is a damaged CD.  Try the disc on a different computer; this will usually allow you to identify if the disc is bad or not.

If the disc appears to be damaged, please see this page for check here for CD replacement information.

Step 3
Check DMA settings for your CD-ROM Device:

Please follow the instructions on this page for setting your DMA and Sync Data Transfer settings.  In many cases, setting up the CD-ROM to read the disk in this fashion will help it get around the data file problem.

Step 4
Check the Hard Disk for Errors:

Make sure you run a full scandisk and defrag of the drive you are installing the game on.  Instructions for this can be found at this page.  You may also want to install the game to a different directory on your hard drive.

Step 5
Ensure the System is Clean of Viruses/Spyware:

Please check your system for Viruses.  Our information about viruses and computer security can be found at this page. Also, be sure that you have completely removed any third party programs such as trainers, maphacks, or other hacks for the game.
