Is your Diablo II Hardcore character suddenly invisible in chat channels? (PC)
If a hardcore character no longer has an image in the game (invisible), this indicates that the character has died, but the correct robed figure is not displaying. This corrupt image file is slated to be fixed in a future patch and the invisible character image will correctly display the robed figure (dead hardcore character).
The most common cause for this image corruption is the use of unsupported methods to exit the game such as Alt+F4 before dying. This exit method can corrupt the character image and cause the image to be invisible rather than the correct dead hardcore character image. An invisible image always indicates the character has died, so we cannot revive the character.
Blizzard Entertainment will not restore Invisible Hardcore characters, as the character is dead. We are sorry for any inconvenience that this has caused you, as this is a strict policy of Blizzard Entertainment. Please note on page 37 of your Diablo II manual, it will give you more information on this specific Blizzard policy.
In addition, please keep in mind that if you get disconnected or exit the game while in a situation where you are fighting monsters, your character will still be in the game for a short time until it is actually logged off of the server, and your character will probably die from the monsters in the game. Or, if you experience significant lag when playing a Realm game, even if you do not see anything happening, the game is still running. When the lag ends, you may see that your character has died.
We do look into reports of players' hardcore characters dying mysteriously, though unexplained hardcore deaths that we have seen in the past have been attributed to the reasons above.
