Free Character Move FAQ



Who is eligible to move their characters?

Players who have characters on an eligible high-population realm will be able to move their characters to a designated realm. Please refer to the "Free Character Move" option on the Account Management page for information on eligible realms.


When can I move my character? My character or realm is not on the list of realms eligible for character transfers?

Please check the "Free Character Move" section on the Account Management page to see if you have a character on one of the realms eligible for character transfers. We will continue to evaluate population levels in the future. If a realm becomes severely over-populated we may open character transfers to the players on that realm. We also have a Paid Character Transfer service available that may allow you to move a character to the realm of your choice. For more information on this service, please see the "Paid Character Transfer" option also available on the Account Management page.


I have a character on one of the listed high-population realms. Where do I go to move my character?

You can start the character transfer process by Clicking on the "Free Character Move" option on the Account Management page.


How do you decide what realms are eligible for moves?

If the size of a realm's population results in login queues and decreased performance, we conduct an evaluation to determine whether dispersing some of the population to other realms would represent the best means for resolving these issues. If so, then we proceed with the character-move process. If not, then we examine other options for increasing performance and alleviating queues.


What kind of realm type transfers are allowed in free character moves?

We take every step possible to offer transfers from source realms to destination realms of the same type (PvE to PvE, PvP to PvP, RP to RP, etc.). There may be cases however where we will offer PvP to PvE transfers when we find they are necessary.


Is this a completely new realm or were players already playing on this realm?

The realms players will be transferring to may be an existing low-population realm with players already on them or a brand new realm.


Can my entire guild move?

Yes, however each guild member will have to transfer their characters themselves. Guild affiliation will be lost upon transfer. In addition, guild leaders cannot transfer unless they transfer leadership to another guild member or disband the guild.


Can I move all my characters at once?

No, you have to move each character individually.


Am I able to play my character after I have initiated a transfer?

When you initiate a transfer your character will be put into a queue to be processed. Your character can be locked at any point during the processing of the transfer. If you log into the game before the transfer is complete and create any auctions, this will cause the transfer to fail and you will have to restart it through the website. If you log into a character before the transfer is complete, this may delay it from processing so we encourage you to stay logged out until it is done. Keep in mind that you will lose any mail that you leave in your mailbox when the process is completed. The estimated time for this transfer to be completed is provided while the character information is being entered.


Will my items transfer with my character? How are mail and auctions handled?

All items in both the inventory and the bank of the character will be transferred along with the character itself. If there is any mail in your mailbox at all -- including read items -- the character will be unavailable for the transfer. This is also true of mail in transit (i.e. the hour delay when mailing an item) and items listed in the Auction Hall. Once the transfer is initiated please refrain from using these services as they may hinder your ability to complete the transfer. NOTE: Any items, gold, mail, or other character progress unexpectedly lost during the transfer will not be restored.


When I attempt to transfer I get an error message about pending mail on the character. What should I do?

If you see this error message even after you've cleared out your mailbox, then this probably means that you still have inbound mail that hasn't arrived yet. Some quests generate mail to your character, or perhaps someone sent you a package that just hasn't arrived yet. Simply wait until the mail arrives, clear your mailbox, and try again. Contact the in-game support if the problem persists.


Do I have to rename my character?

If your character shares a name with an existing character on the realm you are moving to, you will have to rename your character.


What will happen to my Friend List and Ignore List?

Your Friend List and Ignore List will be cleared upon transfer. If you have any friends who transfer to the realm as well, you will have to add them to your Friend List again manually.


What happens to my Honor and Arena points when I transfer?

Your honor points will be transferred along with your character; however, any honor accrued after the last honor calculation but before your transfer is initiated may be lost. Similarly, your arena points transfer with your character; however, any arena points accrued after the last maintenance but before your transfer is initiated may be lost. Also, your character will not have any arena team affiliation upon arrival at the destination realm.


Help! I forgot where I transferred my character!

Your character will be available on the destination realm once the transfer is complete. You can find out where you transferred your character to by matching your old realm with your new realm on the list of eligible realms located on the "Free Character Move" section of the Account Management page.


If I don't like the new realm or change my mind, can I transfer back?

A pending transfer can be cancelled which will remove the request from the queue. Once the transfer has completed, you cannot reverse it. Character transfers are one-way. We strongly recommend you research your destination realm ahead of time to ensure it is a desirable long-term environment for you. The only way to move the character off the realm again would be a Paid Character Transfer.



Why did my transfer close early?

There is usually information about each set of Free Character Moves posted on our General Forums. While we do set these transfers to be available until a certain date and time, we may need to close some transfers early. Transfers are done on a first come, first served basis so if you are planning on making use of this service, we highly recommend that you do so at your earliest convenience. In the event that a realm meets our transfer goals before the scheduled end date the transfers to that realm will be disabled.


My realm was eligible for a free move but I missed it. Can I still transfer?

Once the transfer period has ended, free transfers from that realm will not be available unless the realm becomes part of another free transfer at a later date. We also have a Paid Character Transfer service available that may allow you to move a character to the realm of your choice.
