This year marks the 25th anniversary of Blizzard Entertainment! We’d like to extend our sincerest thanks to our amazing community of players around the world for an epic quarter-century of games, friendship, and incredible experiences—we can’t wait to share our next adventures with you.
Originally released in December 1995, Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness expanded the conflict between the Horde and the Alliance to truly epic proportions. In addition to introducing characters and settings that would serve as a rich foundation for many future adventures across a range of games and other media, Warcraft II was our first release to support simultaneous online combat between more than two players (up to eight), and it kicked off our tradition of including a robust map editor with our real-time strategy titles.
In many ways, Warcraft II's popularity had a huge influence on much of what was to come for Blizzard—from the creation of Battle.net; to StarCraft; to World of Warcraft and the upcoming Warcraft movie; and best of all, to our cherished connection with the passionate, dedicated fellow gamers around the world whom we are proud to call the Blizzard community. Happy 20th anniversary to Warcraft II . . . and thank you, everyone, for helping to make Azeroth such a vibrant and inviting place all these years.
As another great year of StarCraft II esports winds down, we’re excited to share details on our plans for the 2016 World Championship Series! Find out what's in store for esports enthusiasts around the world at the WCS website.
