World of Warcraft Weekly

e recently sat down with World of Warcraft® lead producer J. Allen Brack and art director Chris Robinson to discuss some of the ideas that influenced  the development of Fury of the Sunwell, the most recent content update for World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade®. While we were at it, we also picked their brains about the lessons learned from The Burning Crusade and how they are influencing the design approach for Wrath of the Lich King...

Insider: Let's talk about some high-level design concepts for the Sunwell. We already mentioned that the Sunwell dungeon and raid will conclude the blood elf and draenei storylines, at least for the time being. Can you elaborate on that a little more?

J. Allen Brack:
Without spoiling too much, it's true that some of the major story arcs of The Burning Crusade reach their conclusion in Fury of the Sunwell. There are big revelations for both the blood elves and the draenei, and players will also learn the fate of the remaining member of the bad guy triumvirate of Illidan, Vashj, and Kael'thas. In addition to Kael'thas, there's a new "ultimate villain" to defeat. Essentially, we're providing players with epic resolutions to The Burning Crusade's most visible story arcs.

ruul's mighty Axe of the Gronn Lords. Go ahead, take a few swings with it. Looks good on you... matches your shoulders. Why not take the obvious next step and start cracking some Alliance heads with it? No, don't worry that you've never actually faced down Gruul or even dared step foot in his lair.

Or maybe the Claw of the Phoenix, a rare find in the Eye of Tempest Keep, is more to your taste. No matter how diminutive in stature your gnome rogue might be, a weapon such as this could level the playing field against any foe... even, say, one as large and beefy as a tauren warrior.

On the Arena Tournament Realm, you can create the character you've always wanted, with some of the most powerful gear in the game right at your fingertips. And you need not go toe-to-toe with Gruul the Dragonkiller, or Lady Vashj, or Al'ar to do so. Indeed, your enemies on the Tournament Realm are potentially much more devious and dangerous than any raid boss could ever be... .

Stop window-shopping. Register for the World of Warcraft Arena Tournament and log in to the Tournament Realm today. Create a new level-70 character instantly, deck that character out with some of the most epic epics in the known Warcraft universe, and take that character into battle. It's a whole new game, and your share of the $200,000 prize package is up for grabs.

Illidan Stormrage Deluxe Action Figure
Illidan Stormrage was among the greatest night elf heroes of the War of the Ancients, but his lust for magic ultimately drove him down a dark path. Imprisoned for ten thousand years for creating a new Well of Eternity, Illidan was released during the Third War to aid in the fight against the Burning Legion. After he stole and consumed the Skull of Gul'dan, Illidan turned away from his people, raising an army of the mysterious naga and vengeful blood elves.

Joined by the Broken in Outland, Illidan's forces crushed the minions of Magtheridon, and Illidan claimed the Black Temple as his own. Now the Betrayer, as he has come to be known, rules over all of Outland, awaiting anyone foolish enough to challenge his supremacy. This figure is 6.5" tall, with a wingspan of 11" -- the total height of the figure is 13".
